the laptop was slow to bootup when it got to the dhcp (mac address) part of
the bios booting. But after reinstalling the OS I don't even see this pause at the dhcp anymore. Can someone please enlighten me as to why and what might the problem have been before the reinstall. |

Newer PCs now have network adapters that can be connected to the network before Windows boot up. This is usually for diagnostics/support before Windows load up. It can be know as PXE boot and is mainly used for large groups of networked PCs. For normal home users, we do not need this since we usually are only running a small number of PCs (1 to 5 PCs) on a home network. This can be "turned off" in the BIOS settings of the PC and it seems that this may be what happened on yours. -- --- Y. |
