Default Delay opening folders caused by dcom server process launcher service

Hello,

I am seeing a problem where when I try to open My Computer, or click
the Look In dropdown in the run dialog, or anything similar, it takes
a minute or two to get results. I've checked all the obvious stuff
like spyware (none based on MS Antispyware, Spybot and Ad-Aware),
disabled all antivirus and firewall and such (ZoneAlarm for both) and
this is a stand-alone computer with no mapped drives.

I've traced the problem to the "dcom server process launcher"
service... when I set it to disabled and reboot, the problem goes
away. Of course, then I can't use a number of applications I need (MS
Antispyware and ATI's Multimedia Center to name two). When I set it
to Automatic (because it can't be manually started) and reboot, the
problem returns (but at least I can use those apps!).

Can anyone point me in the right direction on this? I've been
Googling for over an hour now and haven't found anything that seems
applicable. Thanks!

Frank

Please look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for Warning
and Error Reports over the last 2 days use and post copies here.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Frank

Yes you do have a few = 21 pages!

Try Start, Run, type "sfc /scannow" without quotes and hit Enter.

Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System
File Checker (Sfc.exe)
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;310747

After doing this reboot the computer and check whether the
numbers of Error Reports being generated are reduced. If yes
please provide a small sample from both logs.

Do you have a removable hard drive?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Hope this helps.

Hi Gerry,

I ran sfc /scannow, no errors or anything came up.

I then rebooted and checked the logs. There were still some errors. I
also confirmed I have no yellow question marks in device manager.
Also, I do not have a removable hard drive.

Here is a few of the entries in the Application log:
