I've got a new comp I've just built, which suffers from random freezing.
Time between freezing can be anywhere from a few minutes to a couple hours (never more). It can happen at any time - listening to music, playing a game, watching a movie, navigating through windows, or just idling (i should add - the quickest way to get the freeze is while idling, with the slowest while doing something intensive, such as playing a game). I've been reading tons of newsgroups on people who have this problem, with a similar setup to mine (dual core, 2GB RAM,MCE, GeForce 7800, Tv Tuner, Asus A8N-Sli Premium, etc..) It seems to be a common problem with dual core machines, but whereas most people solve it by something with drivers (reverting to older nvidia ones, or the ones released last week, an updated bios), or a psu not providing enough power, none of this has worked for me. I recently got the MS hotfix for dual core cpu's, to no avail. At this point, i THINK i've tried everything under the sun, but I'm sure open to any advice anyone may have, particularily if it has to do with windows and something i've missed - though anything else will certainly help! (For the record, this was a clean install, and i've run chkdsk and so forth). Thanks! -Steven |

Actually its more of a hardware issue than software, but both seem to be
the ptoblem(s).Try reading 816071 and 894278 Another step is to go to run, type:VERIFIER For this utility,1st get the info on it from microsoft.Thiers also a hotfix for this area #892052 "HellsChicken" wrote: > I've got a new comp I've just built, which suffers from random freezing. > Time between freezing can be anywhere from a few minutes to a couple hours > (never more). Thanks for the reply.
I will try the verifier program to see if I can track it down, but I don't think it deals with either of the other 2 articles: -Doesn't seem to have anything to do with IE, plus I have all the updates for windows/IE. -Doesn't have anything to do with networked files or backups, etc.. It also doesn't seem to be hardware related: -I have monitored both heat levels of CPU/mobo/system/video card and they are all fine. -Voltages in the CPU are fine. -The system is actually at its most stable while playing a game (and least stable while idling, with general useage in between), so doesn't seem to be a video card hw problem. -Ran memtest overnight and it passed 6 times. -Ran prime95 torture test, CPU came out just fine. Check your event viewer for any logged errors
and review your installed apps to see if you have anything that uses idle time to do some work. The event viewer lists nothing relating to the freeze. No warnings, no errors.
I also can't find anything that might be running in the background while idling. It's a fresh install and I haven't installed very much yet. Even so, i've gone through add/remove and gotten rid of most things, and done full virus/spyware scans. "S. it's probably a hardware or driver issue then.
and you should follow andrew's suggestion "HellsChicken" <HellsChicken@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6D78B29E-B4F7-49F4-B88F-9969F897DFBA@microsoft.com... > The event viewer lists nothing relating to the freeze.
