Default System restore and start up issues...

I recently used a troubleshooter to help install a problematic game which had
me go into msconfig and de-select all under selective startup... I
installed the game, booted up normally afterward however now I have noticed
many bugs. Among them is a problem restarting. My computer continuously
freezes at the windows loading screen and cant re-start. Also, I've since
tried to use system restore to try and regain stability... but each time
restore tells me that it cannot complete restore to that point and to select
a different point only I've tried and it happens regardless of which one I
choose. Also, when I turn on my computer and make it to windows, "sometimes"
the installation wizard comes on recognizing and wanting to install already
installed hardware usually the grafics chip and display card ... Lastly,
every time windows loads an error message appears telling me that "raid
english resources has encountered a problem and needs to close"... This is
generally what I'm dealing with. Any input or feedback would be greatly
appreciated...

Default Re: System restore and start up issues...

Restart your computer and allow 5 minutes to pass and then look in the
System and Application logs of Event Viewer and post copies
of Warning and Error Reports.

I am fearful that there will be a lot of reports, even if Information
Reports
are disregarded, so please post copies of no more than 8 reports. The
first 8 so we can see how the problems begin.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message(email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Default Re: System restore and start up issues... Error message1-8

It would appear that your system has RAID installed and this is creating
problems, You may resolve some or most of your problems by going into
the BIOS and disabling the RAID controller chip ( in a report I found, the
user had two installed and was told to disable one but disabled both and
problem was gone ).

I have no experience of RAID but understand it is a non-essential service.
I found this comment which, may or may not, apply to your situation.

"RAID 0 on a home system ( other than a media server / HTPC host box
/ Digital Content Creation machines ) is akin to putting a Twin Turbo V12
in a 1952 Volkswagen Beetle. You're not going to be able to do anything
to notice any benefits."

There are reports of malware masquerading as the nvraidservice.
However, the startling similarity of your errors to the report I found lead
me
to favour a problem with the way RAID is installed on your machine.

I would be interested in further information about RAID on your system.
You can get information about hardware installed using Everest.

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information about your
computer:
Everest Home Edition (freeware)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight required
text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this is fine for
posting small amounts of information into newsgroup messages
longer reports will irritate other newsgroup subscribers.

For Event ID: 1517 download and install the User Profile
Hive Cleanup Service
Download details: User Profile Hive Cleanup Service
http://snipurl.com/5b61

UPHClean v1.5e readme.txt
http://snipurl.com/ko8m

It can speed up Shutdown.

I have not suggested solutions for all your current errors as the solutions
suggested above may mean the environment on your computer is
so improved that the other problems go away.

Hope this helps.

Default Viewer events...

Gerry,
My system seems to still get jammed upon starting and re-starting. I looked
at the event finder afterwards and found these re-occuring errors. Any
further ideas? I have downloaded the hive cleaner... Thanks for your
input...

Default Re: Viewer events...

Your problem is not run of the mill. It is difficult to pinpoint where the
problem starts. You are also into technology with which I am not
familiar.

Did you try disabling RAID in the BIOS? With what effect?

Looking again at the error reports suggests there are hints of a problem
with a CD / DVD drive. How many CD / DVD drives do you have?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Are you using your computer for video viewing / editing?

Hope this helps.
