All Programs issue
I'm running Win XP, SP2. When I the standard Start Menu, when I select "All
Programs" nothing shows up...it's like the "All Programs" group doesn't have anything to show. However, when I change to "Classic Start Menu" when I select the "Programs" group I do have programs listed. Any ideas what could be causing this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you very much, but unfortunately that didn't work. This appears to be a nasty problem that many people have had. I researched further and there does not appear to be a clear explaination or resolution. Are you using the XP Start Menu? If so, try changing to the Classic Start Menu and see if the Programs folder appears full. Right click Start button | Properties | Select Classic Start Menu | Click Apply | Click OK | Then click the Start button and point to Programs. Anything? All Programs (or Programs) is really a combination of %homepath%\Start Menu\Programs and %allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs Do the programs appear if you... I was following Wesley's instructions about the ...%homepath%\Start Menu\Programs and the %allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs. On the first one I got the following message: "Windows cannot find \Documents. Make sure you type the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." THEN on the second one when I copied pasted on the Run window and clicked OK it did work, it connected me to a folder named Programs. I tried the Classic Menu and shows that I have an empty All Programs menu. What do I need to do next to get my Programs back to the Start-All Programs menu. %homepath%\Start Menu\Programs should be the equivalent of C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Start Menu\Programs You need to look at... Start Menu 'All Programs' is empty or nothing happens when you click the menu http://windowsxp.mvps.org/AllPrograms.htm It sounds like something is messed up with HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders -- Hope this helps. %homepath% is not always the same as %userprofile%, (an NT4 thing). It won't work one day.

What is the difference between %homepath% and %userprofile%?
Do you mean having to do with being on a network? Do you mean like the differences between %systemroot% and %windir%? Which are quite often the same thing. -- Hope this helps. Let us know. Connect home directory to root of the share
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon/Logoff Description Restores the definitions of the %HOMESHARE% and %HOMEPATH% environment variables to those used in Windows NT 4.0 and earlier. If you enable this policy, the system uses the Windows NT 4.0 definitions. If you disable this policy or do not configure it, the system uses the new definitions designed for Windows 2000. Along with %HOMEDRIVE%, these variables specify the home directory of a user profile. The home directory is a persistent mapping of a drive letter on the local computer to a local or remote directory. By default, in Windows 2000, %HOMESHARE% stores the fully qualified path to the home directory (such as \\server\share\dir1\dir2\homedir). Users can access the home directory and any of its subdirectories from the home drive letter, but they cannot see or access its parent directories. %HOMEPATH% stores a final backslash and is included for compatibility with earlier systems. On Windows NT 4.0 and earlier, %HOMESHARE% stores only the network share (such as \\server\share). %HOMEPATH% stores the remainder of the fully qualified path to the home directory (such as \dir1\dir2\homedir).
