I had the same issue. The software works fine on the disk, which I have
used to back up pictures, but not if I directly connect the camera. I
went to the Microsoft site, and found that this is a known issue. I then
downloaded the signature files for my camera, and
uninstalled...COMPLETELY , (you can use other uninstall programs than
the one provided to get all registry and folders off the drive-- I use
one from MIT's labs), THEN do a clean install of the easy share software
if you still want to use it.
It's actually only okay to use if you're connected to an easy share
port. If you're just saving to SSD or other small disk, then avoid it,
and use your preferred paint program to read the media. It's MUCH easier
to import from a portable media.

There is an updated Easy Share software disk you can order from Kodak's
website under support/downloads. I have that as a back up, but again,
unless you're using the easyshare port... just avoid it.
