When attempting to run the ASR Backup Wizard in Windows XP Professional
an error message is returned: "The files for recovery diskette could not be created. The operation was cancelled". In addition all attempts use System Restore to go back to a prior point also fail. There is no error code in the Event Log, just that NTbackup failed. The ASR utility had worked fine for months then suddenly it has stopped working. This has occurred on a friend's PC just now, but also happened on my personal PC a year ago. I wasn't able to correct the problem until one day my hard drive failed and I had to replace the drive and then restored from an older ASR backup which was created prior to the start of the problem. I never did find the cause. Now my friend's PC has encountered the exact problem. I have done a lot of searching for answers in the groups and at Microsoft's site but have found no reference to this problem. Every single reference to this problem is regarding the fact that this utility is not available in Windows XP Home Edition. There is no reference to this problem with Windows XP Professional. Microsoft's site did reference this problem with Server 2003, but not Win XP Pro. Has anyone experienced this problem with Win XP Pro and found a solution? Thank you. Mike |
