Default OT - Is it possible to share a webcam *directly* over the internet.

Is it possible to share a webcam *directly* over the internet. Both parties
have always-on broadband.

I believe Netmeeting provides a direct connection, since it goes by IP
address.

But you need to establish a netmeeting conversation at both ends.

I was hoping for someway that was app free, just cam feed over ip.

Like sharing a printer over the internet ;-) Ok I now know it's not feasible
with todays' technology ;-)

Why beats me.

In news:%23dbTWgx2FHA.2624@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl,
Mac <mac@nospam.com> had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

Sharing a printer over the internet would be an insane act. Over an INTRAnet
perhaps. <g>

Anyhow, see here:

http://www.snapfiles.com/downloadfin...earch=Se arch

Something there should do what you want though it doesn't look like anything
there does "just" what you want. In other words you'll get some bloat with
it but you can do it easily enough from the looks of things.

Scroll down on the page and Yawcam looks to be able to do specifically what
you want. It's bloated java. Have you looked on the CD that came with your
webcam to see if there's an optional application that can be installed? I
can't think of ever buying a cam that didn't have such software with it IIRC
though, then again, I can't think of ever having installed any of the
software that might have come with it. Basically it seems that if I want to
use a webcam I'll just use one of the various instant messengers such as MSN
Messenger or Yahoo! Instant Messenger.

I use an app called webcam 2000, it provides a static image live from
the cam whenever a request is made. It runs a basic web server from your
PC, you can change some settings such as HTTP refresh, port and password
protection.

Greetings Mac,

Easiest thing to use is the Windows Media Encoder:

Jonathan - that's exactly what I wanted - thanks very much.

I have experimented broadcasting via a free port and watching/listening
myself over the ip feed. Great thing is so long as I supply the other party
with the ip address the WME advises then they can just "tune-in" by opening
that URL in their WMP.

Thanks again (unfortunately quite a few experts of various NG's told me it
was impossible ;-)

I'll copy this reply to those threads.

Always impressed by you Jonathan (one of the top MVP's)

Hi Mac,

Yep, it's a really cool tool (not sure why it doesn't get more acclaim really).

Glad to assist
