Default Stay in the system tray - not on the taskbar

When you start Messenger, I really do not want it to stay minimized in the
taskbar taking up space. How can I make it just stay in the system tray
area? You can configure Blackberry Desktop software that when minimized it
will go to the tray, so can Messenger do this also?

Click on the close button (X) instead of minimise (_). It won't actually
close, but it hides itself from the taskbar and keeps an icon in the
notification area.
