I'm having trouble with my original Windows Messenger. For some reason it
stopped working when I had to format and reinstall on my Compaq. I have Windows XP Pro version 2002, with Service Pack 1. If I put Service Pack 2 on it will not let me delete the partition on the hard drive or format if something goes wrong, so I have no idea of how to fix the messenger without going to MSN Messenger 7.5 and I do not like it, because i have two messengers on my system. Can you help me please? -- Larry |

Greetings Larry,
Could you elaborate on a bit on what you mean by "stopped working"? Does it not appear, can you just not sign in, or what? ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2005 Jonathan Kay. I get an error message saying:
" Signing in to .Net Messenger Service failed because the service is not compatible with this version of the program. " I have two options, retry or cancel. When I retry I get the same error message. I do not understand why it will not work as before, and let me update the messenger. When I added MSN Messenger 7.5 now I have 2 messengers, and I would prefer to only have one, and hopefully just Windows Messenger. Hi Larry,
It sounds like you're using an old version of Windows Messenger. Update to the latest here: http://microsoft.com/downloads/detai...f-9157a3b3d774 then you can just remove MSN Messenger from Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2005 Jonathan Kay. I've installed version 5.1 and it seemed to be working better, however now it
will not automatically start with Windows. I've gone into tools+options+ preferences and there is a check in "Run Windows Messenger when Windows Starts". If I take the check out and I put a shortcut to the messenger in my startup folder, I'll have to close it every time I bootup. How can i get it to work right, start with Windows and log on? -- Larry "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote: > Hi Larry, > > It sounds like you're using an old version of Windows Messenger.
