Hi-
I've been wrestling with this problem for a few weeks and after many tries and reformatted hard-drives and fresh installs of windows, I'm no closer to solving it: There are certain .avi files in my "My Videos" folder that cause WMM to hang when I try to import them. However, I can drag and drop the files into the collections/story-boards with no problem. Even stranger, it seems that if I move the offending files to the desktop I can import them fine. Most of the files in "My Videos" import perfectly. This problem occurs with WMM, Adobe Premiere, and Sony Vega trial version. On a different machine on my network I can import the files from the same "my Videos" location without the hanging issue. I have reformatted the hard drive multiple time, reinstalled fresh copies of windows, reviewed the crash/hang page on papajohn.org and spent many hours on the phone with (Adobe's) tech support, all to no avail. I should note that I first noticed the problem after installing a new hard-drive and reimporting all of "My Documents" to the new drive. Everything else seems to be fine with the machine. I've been pulling my hair out over this one. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this behavior (the hanging, not the hair-pulling)? Thanks in advance. Spencer |

maybe a codec issue, depending on what kind(s) of avi files you're working

I believe it was a file made in WMM and exported as a DV-AVI. Possible it
was Adobe Premiere Elements 1.0 but I think WMM. Wasn't an issue with either app prior to the Windows reinstall. I'm confused about you saying on one hand "There are certain .avi files in
my "My Videos" folder that cause WMM to hang when I try to import them." Then on the other hand you say "However, I can drag and drop the files into the collections/story-boards with no problem." Importing them is to get them into a collection... if you can't import them, how is it you can drag and drop them into collections/storyboard? -- PapaJohn Movie Maker 2 and Photo Story 3 website - http://www.papajohn.org MM2 Tips and Tricks: http://www.simplydv.co.uk/simplyBB/viewtopic.php?t=4693 Online Newsletters: http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/PapaJohn/Index.aspx "sma" <sma@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:14B76813-504E-426E-BBD8-2C57C6AF2EC7@microsoft.com... >I believe it was a file made in WMM and exported as a DV-AVI. if I try to import by selecting "import video" from the Movie Tasks/Capture
Video link on the left sidebar, WMM hangs once I've selected the offending file and clicked "import." However, I can drag & drop that same file into the collections workspace (from windows explorer) and it is accepts it. Bizarre, eh? It is a workaround I can live with but it is a clumsy way to import and I'm a little worried that whatever is causing the hangs is going to manifest itself in other ways I haven't discovered yet. Thanks for the attention you've given this. I was just hoping maybe you'd encountered this one before. It's an intriguing new one to me... I wonder if they would import if you
renamed them. -- PapaJohn Movie Maker 2 and Photo Story 3 website - http://www.papajohn.org MM2 Tips and Tricks: http://www.simplydv.co.uk/simplyBB/viewtopic.php?t=4693 Online Newsletters: http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/PapaJohn/Index.aspx "sma" <sma@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:28EE70BB-C3CA-443F-AA17-5E1CCFF5424E@microsoft.com... > if I try to import by selecting "import video" from the Movie > Tasks/Capture > Video link on the left sidebar, WMM hangs once I've selected the offending > file and clicked "import."
