Default Compressor, which one to use ?

I have just used for the first time RAD video to convert from mov to avi. I
converted the file into a MEPG4 and the new file has a wmv file extension.
This does not present a problem as far as I can tell because I can now play
with it in MM2.

The question I have is after I select to convert to avi how do I pick which
compressor to use ?
I assume there is a FAQ or a tutorial somewhere to read about what to use
and why.

Thanks

Not an FAQ or Tutorial, but you might find the Importing Source Files >
Video > Recorded TV page of my site interesting... scroll down to the info
about the results of using various codec options when converting a file.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction and the information.
I guess I was lucky or just intuitive in picking the MPEG4 codec.

Of those in the list.... I've standardized on using the Panasonic DV codec
for files that I'll be using in more complex projects. It gives a DV-AVI
file that won't have the kinds of issues you can run into with MPEG encoded
ones.

You might be OK if your editing is minimal.
