Default burning to Nero Start Smart

When I attempt to "add" any of my completed movie files to my list of items
to burn to DVD, I get the message "no compatible file found". I have tried
mpg2, wswmm, wmv, avi.

Is it this program, do I need to upgrade to Nero6 Ultra Edition, or can
anyone recommend another program that is free and tried and true? Thanks.

Which option are you picking from nero startsmart?
It's odd it's not working with any file type. Is the avi a dv-avi?

When I save my project, I select "save to my computer", then in "other
settings" I select DV-AVI.
In Nero Startsmart I choose DVD, Photo and Video, Burn DVD-Video Files, and
when the "add your DVD files" box appears it shows the options as ifo, vob,
bup.

Thanks,

supported (Make sure that you file have the correct format...

Yes, I think you're right. Is Vision Express 3 the better choice? I was
thinking Nero6 Ultra. I'd like to keep it simple as this is all very new to
me.

At the burn dvd video files, do you get any other choices?
Dvd video files are ones which have already been converted, which would be
the ones you say. What you need to do is do that conversion with nero, which
as the other poster has said may entail getting another version of Nero. But
check what other options you have first.

In Nero choose DVD -> Photo and Video -> Make your own DVD video
If you don't have this option then you don't have the portion of Nero needed
(Nero Vision Express) to create the DVD.
In this case you can either purchase the full version of Nero or any of the
other DVD authoring packages out there. There is a list along with download
links on my website under the DVD Programs section.
