Can someone please run through the steps I need to take to burn my movie onto
a DVD. I had the guy from Best Buy come here to show me and he was horrible!
I have the movie saved and then it says to save it to a movie to burn it to
a DVD - is that correct. I did that and it took a really long time - is that
normal? Now it's sitting in Sonic DVD Creator - seems like it's frozen there
trying to burn it to the DVD - is this all correct?

The file type you need to burn to DVD is a DV-AVI. So if this is captured
video from a dig camcorder, it should have been captured as a DV-AVI file.
Then if you used MM to make edits, you need to save the movie (not just the
project) as a DV-AVI file again. Now you will have 2 copies on your PC. The
original and the edited one. Import the edited one into a DVD authoring
program (Sonic MyDVD, NeroVisionExpress, Ulead etc) and burn. I'm not sure if
Sonic DVD Creator is an authoring software or whether it just burns the data
file to the DVD.

Sonic DVD Creator is an authoring program.
kwalker you apparently have the MCE2005 version of Movie Maker which comes
with a Media Edition computer. You do have the option of clicking "Save to
DVD" with that version of Movie Maker but all it does is basically the same
thing Steve is telling you to do but it automates the process.
If you click "Save to DVD" Movie Maker will render your project into a video
file and then import that video into Sonic to create a DVD for you. Since it
is rendering a video, importing a video, converting it to MPEG2 to put on a
DVD, and then burning it to DVD then yes it does take quite a bit of time.
Plus doing it this way does have some drawbacks such as the inability to
create DVD menus and the fact that you can't put more than one video on a
DVD.
Instead I suggest following Steve's suggestion.
Complete your project.
Save the project by clicking File -> Save. (This will NOT create the movie
only save the project.
Then click "Save to my computer".
Follow the prompts in the save movie wizard to save as a DV-AVI.
Once the rendering is complete you will have a {myfile}.AVI file in your
documents.
Open Sonic MyDVD or use a different DVD Authoring program if you prefer. (I
am not a Sonic fan myself)
I have a list of different DVD Authoring programs on my website
in the "DVD Programs" section.
Import your AVI video into the DVD Authoring program and create your DVD
from there.
I can't be more specific with the authoring once in the DVD program since it
depends on what you want to do and which program you decide to do it with.
Hopefully all the information provided by myself and Steve doesn't overload
the brain but instead helps. :-)

i also need help as well, i was able to use windows movie maker but it would
not let me burn it onto a dvd, only a recordable cd, like cd-rw? why can't it
let me do this? do i need a new software? for burning a movie onto dvd?

Yes. If you don't have the "Save to DVD" option, which is only on Media
Center PC's, then you need DVD Authoring software to create a DVD.
