I have tried everything you have suggested in order to get my movie to run
after it has been saved. The only way I was able to get it to go at all was
to remove almost all of my effects and put it on the worst quality of pocket
PC setting. (I couldn't figure out how to raise the quality level once it was
saved. I also couldn't figure out house to save it in chunks) This leads me
to my question. I have a reasonably fast computer ( I will give you my specs
in a sec), is there anything I should or could change physically on my
computer to make it run this video. It is only 13 minutes long for Gods sake.

My computer is a Gateway GT5014 with a Pentium D 820 Processor. It has a
dual core processor - each core running at 2.8 Ghz, 800 MhzFSB, 2x1 MB L2
Cache. It also has 1024 MB DDR2. (I dón't really know what all that means...
it's just on the front of my machine)hehe.

Anyway, if you could give me any help with what I can do to my machine to
make this thing actually work that would be awesome. This is our major
present to all of our family members.. without it we have nothing.

not the issue here.
Tell us specifically what happens when you save your movie to the harddrive.
Does it save at all?
Does it play poorly in your media player?
Do you get any error messages?
What are the types of files you are using in your project (file extensions
please)?
Answers to these questions should lead us to the answer to your problem.

I am using a lot of pictures with 8 - 10 video clips of varying
lengths...nothing more than 25 seconds. I save it - it takes 15 minutes or so
- and then go to watch it using either Nero or WMP and there will be missing
pictures or it will just go black and stay that way for the rest of the
movie. Audio seems not to be a problem. I just figured it was a lack or
system resources because as I was getting to then end and trying to put more
video into it it would crash quite frequently so I had to save often. It also
doesn't move as smoothly as it did when I was just beginning.

Like I said, I did convert it to pocket PC size and it worked, but only
after taking out almost all effects and lost a LOT in quality. (you can
barely make out who is who when you put it to full screen.

My goal is to be able to make a DVD of the full project to send to each
extention of my family. Please tell me I will be able to do this!!!

As Wojo said, your system is awesome. Lots of people have issues here that
are usually a simple fix but difficult to find. I have a 2 year old 3.0GHz
machine with HT processor (not the new dual core processor you are running).
Only 512 MB RAM, yet I can capture DV while my DSL is running and even burn
DVDs with my DSL on and the firewall active etc. I have never had an issue
with MM. So there is no questioning your resources. I also haven't tried to
overload it with lots of clips and pictures in one project so I really don't
know what my limit is.

You did say you got it too work when removing a lot of stuff then saving it
to Pocket PC format. The key was most likely what you removed. For a souped
up system to crash like yours is, you should probably look at, and answer,
the request of Wojo and state what file types you are using (with
extensions). Without seeing the list we can't tell but .jpg (instead of .bmp
for photo), .mpg (instead of DV-AVI for video) and .mp3 (instead of .wma for
audio) have been known to crash MM.

One way to test is to save your full project. Then in the timeline delete
the last 10 minutes and save as project1. This will be the first 5 minutes.
Try saving that movie. Then go to to the original project and delete the
first 5 and the last 5 minutes. Save project as project2. Then try saving the
movie. Again go to original project and delete the first 10 minutes from the
timeline. Save the project (project3) and try saving the movie. If each movie
saved then you can import the 3 movies, in order, into MM and resave as your
final movie. This is one way of simplifying the rendering process of MM but
you may lose a fraction of quality. If one of the 3 sections doesn't save it
may help you find which file is corrupt.

I am using jpg for the photos, I am not sure for video(I captured it off of
my video camera), and wma for my audio. This may be causing the crash issue
but do you think it would effect the saving?

Also, When I save it it seems to stop at random locations. I have saved it
11 times now and each time it has been at different locations within the
project. My last two times were the best. They made it down to the last
minute or so before turning to black. Very frustrating.

I also tried to save the project in chunks as you suggested but I can't
figure out how to delete an exact amount of material. I can't seem to just
select a time and delete everything after that. Do you know how to do that?

After saving the original full project, to save the 1st third of your movie,
determine that time and delete anything to the right of that time. If you
need to shrink a clip down, put your cursor on the end of the clip in the
timeline and drag the end of the clip to the left. Then save as a new project.

To save the last third, determine the starting point at the end of the
original project. Delete everything to the left of it in the timeline. Save
as a separate project.

Do both of the above (to the original project) to get the middle third. Save
as a new project.

Steve's advice is very good, thank you Steve for finishing up with the
direction I was heading in my absence , yes the JPG files "could" be the
problem as some have reported having this issue when using them. As far as
the video goes did you capture with WMM or something else? It could be
important as MPG files very very often cause problems. Sometimes these
problems occur when importing and sometimes not until saving or playback. I
obviously can't be certain but either the file types or the project
complexity (which Steve covered) are usually are the causes of this problem.
