When I connect camcorder to PC card using S-video cable and try to capture
the video, I get no audio. But when I use an RCA-plug connection, I get audio. I wondered if anyone had ideas on how to fix the S-video connection problem. Here's setup. SYSTEM. WinXP(pro) PC with Windows Movie Maker, and connecting a Sony digital camcorder, abt 3 yrs old. The PC has an ATI Radeon 9000pro all-in-wonder multimedia card...it has a purple cable that ends into a big block that has 4 connectors...S-video, RCA-left, RCA-right, RCA-video. RCA-PLUG CAMCORDER CONNECTION. The camera can output to the three RCA plugs (wht, red, yellow), and the ATI card can accept this. When used, works fine, but would still like to use simpler s-video, and resolve its problem S-VIDEO CAMCORDER CONNECTION. The camera can output to S-Video and the ATI card can accept same. I linked with s-video cable. But no audio during capture. Don't think it's cable...it buzzes out perfectly with volt/ohm meter. Don't think its audio card because the card gets "TV-tuner" sound, plus microphone, CD, and all else. Also, (X) Line-In is checked in Windows, I think. (Oddly, in Windows, for "Recording Controls" you can only check one at a time from choices... Line-in, TAD-in, Auxillary, etc.) Thanks for any suggestions, George |

s-video is a "video only" carrier, you still need to use the RCA jacks for
the sound. Plus this is an "analog" connection so don't try to capture the video using
WMM you won't like the results. Instead either use the analog capture software that came with the card (if there was any) or purchase a digital unit (such as a Dazzle 80) and connect the camera to that to convert to digital for WMM capture. -- Wojo's Web: http://www.remember-christopher.dostweb.com/Wojo's_Place/ Also Please visit..... http://www.remember-christopher.dost...m/christopher/ "KDE" <knott_me@NOSPAM.hotmail.com> wrote in message news:%23pDdh1r%23FHA.904@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... > s-video is a "video only" carrier, you still need to use the RCA jacks > for > the sound. Thanks, brief question here...

I'm a little confused here... agreed that a digital-digital link (IEEE 1394) is best, but let's say I've got analog video (like from a VCR or old analog cam), so an analog signal is coming towards the PC. Isn't what ends up in WMM on the PC by definition *digital* (no matter how it got there...thru any card, thru Dazzle, whatever). So, seems like I wouldn't really need Dazzle at all to "convert" it, right? That is, if I can get it into WMM, it for sure got converted to digital, right? Anyway, pls excuse newness, still working to get up to speed, George |

If MM will capture it, it will be digital yes. Most times MM will not work
with analogue connections, so no video = no digital video. A box like the dazzle gives you a connection which MM will recognise or a software option that will work, and then you have video and again, as it is on the pc it will be digital. -- Graham Hughes MVP Digital Media www.myvideoproblems.co.uk www.dvds2treasure.com www.simplydv.com "George" <air1@bellsouth.net> wrote in message news:uUyI3l5%23FHA.3464@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... > Thanks, brief question here... > >> Plus this is an "analog" connection so don't try to capture the video > using >> WMM you won't like the results. >> Instead either use the analog capture software that came with the card >> (if >> there was any) or purchase a digital unit (such as a Dazzle 80) and > connect >> the camera to that to convert to digital for WMM capture. > > I'm a little confused here... agreed that a digital-digital link (IEEE > 1394) > is best, > > but let's say I've got analog video (like from a VCR or old analog cam), > so > an analog signal is coming towards the PC.
