Default I need help with an AVI file

I bought a Canon Powershot A520 which records 3 minute videos in AVI format.
They will not play in Windows Media player and I cannot bring them into WMM
(Version 2.1.4026.0 that came with my Gateway 506 GR. I'm running XP with 2
Gigs of RAM) I have also tried to bring them into Ulead Video Studio Editor
8. Does anyone have a fix so I can edit my movies? Do I need a new codec aor
what?

Please help,

Marcus Tee

Did you not get any software with your camera? If not, then check in your
manual for the exact file type it makes then google for a *.*** file to
dv-avi or wmv convertor.

It makes an AVI file as I already said. The only player that will play it is
the latest Quicktime player. But that doesn't allow any editing.

avi is just a wrapper and can be lots of different file types. You can get
dv-avi from camcorders, mjpeg avi's are common from cameras, divx and xvid
are common compressed forms of avi.
I take it you got no software wioth the camera as you haven't mentoned it,
so read the manual to find the type of avi file it produces and then google
for a converter.
