Default Capture works but crashes on finish

I have a JVCDx307 and have connected it to my pc via firewire. The
video captures without a problem but when I finish and it attempts to
import the avi

I get

Runtime error!

Program:.....\moviemk.exe
this app has requested the runtime to terminateit in an unusual way.
Please Contact the app's support team for more info.

and it shuts down.

I can play the avi's captured using media player but can't import into
movie maker.

Any suggestions as to the problem.

Cheers

Can you try using a free app called windv, it's simple to use, a link is
here, and see if that works?

Just trieds it now and I get an error.

Can't create CaptureGraphBuilder

and then an error when trying to select the video source

Ensure you have the latest versions of DirectX, windows media encoder and
windows media player. If you need to install each seperately and re-boot
between each installation.

well...I finally got round to checking everything, and it still fails.
I have the latest versions but it still crashes when importing the avi.
