Day One and Impressed

Today is the first day that I have played with WMM or any other video
editing program, and I am impressed! It is surprising easy to use.
There's much to learn, but it looks like it will be fun.

Several questions:

1) Is there a way to set the default fade/transition time? It is
defaulting to 1.25 seconds, and it would be better in my application for
0.5 to 0.75 seconds.

2) Is there a way to automatically fade between each clip, rather than
having to manually insert the transition?

3) Will the skills acquired in editing in WMM be useful when it's time
to learn a more robust program, like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro?

4) What format should the movie be exported as for highest quality for
authoring a DVD? DV-AVI (NTSC)?

5) What SIMPLE DVD authoring software is available? I saw a
recommendation for MyDVD, but are there others that are preferred for
beginners?

I know there are some free ones, but there are also warnings that they
are hard to learn.

1 - Tools > Options >Advanced Tab > change it
2 - no, but put all the clips on the storyboard, select them all, then drop
the fade transition to the project and it'll go between them all... so maybe
'yes'
3 - yes
4 - DV-AVI
5 - the DVD Software section of my website has the packages noted by users
of Movie Maker...

Well, Although it should but it doesnt work this way. After selecting all
the clips in the storyboard one needs to Right click on the Fade transition
and select Apply to Storyboard. Or use Copy paste: Select Fade transition,
Copy (press Ctrl-C) and then select number of clips or the small transition
boxes between clips and do a paste (Ctrl-V).

For video you should use DV AVI format for capture and final saving. For
still pictures my recommendation is to use a high quality WMV format. Saving
in DV AVI for these would use some unwanted processing that blurs the
output.

Minor detail, but after I select all of the clips in the storyboard and
then right click on the Fade transition, the selected clips become
unselected. What I am missing?
