Default No “picture display” in the preview window after splitting an impo

I was wondering if someone on this list could please help to shed some light
on a problem I am having?

I previously captured a video from my Panasonic analogue camcorder through a
Plextor PX-M402U (a box that converts analogue to digital), using virtualDub
1.6 to create a .avi file.

I open Microsoft moviemaker 2.1 and import the .avi file for editing. WMM
gives you the ability to “split the clip into two clips at the current
frame”.

When I use this function to split the original capture, the clip is actually
split but there is only one small problem. The preview window will continue
to display the picture for the first clip that it created but it will not
display in the second clip. When the time line reaches the position at which
the clip was split; the preview window displays a completely green box where
the picture is meant to be. My question is why will it not display?

Any help that could help solve my issue would of course be greatly
appreciated.

Can you tell us what sort of avi file it makes? Is it dv-avi?

To be honest, I don’t know. The drop down menu says ‘capture avi’
