Hi folks - I hope someone can help me!!
I was up until 3 a.m. this morning trying to burn my MM Project to DVD using Sonic. I got this error message when I opened Sonic which mentioned something about DMA (Direct Memory Access). I did a bit digging and found this advice on the web "In Windows XP find IDE Controllers .. Primary and Secondary IDE Channel to get to this setting, then select DMA if available for all drives. Do the same for your CD and DVD drives as well. Windows may give a warning when you switch to DMA mode, which you can ignore. If your computer or hard drives are old and cannot use DMA, you can always start Windows in Safe Mode as described earlier and disable DMA." I checked the devices and all were set to DMA so why I was getting this error message I don't know. I then proceeded to burn the project to DVD (having already saved the file using one of the High Quality options). The transcoding process took nearly 2 1/2 hours and then a further1/2 hour to complete (for a slideshow and video footage which takes around one hour). The DVD popped out and I though great it's late but at least thats a job well done. Then a message box appeared on screen with the following "MYDVD unknown error:2131042562 -4". Can anyone help!!! Many Thanks Jim |

Have you recently installed a second hard drive?
Did you try the disk to see if it played? I had an error like that once, but the disk was still good. I think it was a post burn memory error or something like that. It's a new Dell Dimension 6000 Laptop with a Sony writer, haven't added
anything to it. I put the RW DVD back in the drive but it only recognised it as a CD with nothing on it. I'll try and play a DVD and copy an audio CD to see if that works. Thanks for your reply. Jim,
I saw your other post and had a few questions. What version of MyDVD are you using? If a newer version (I use 4.5), then you should have a 'fit to dvd' option which would compress your 4.8GBs enough to fit but not so much to lose quality. What brand of DVDs are you using? I have had good luck with the Sony DVD+R. Is your laptop overheating during the process or are you running via the battery? Not sure if that would be an issue, just thought I'd ask. Hi Steve,
it's Sonic Digital Media LE v7. I saw the fit to DVD option later (wouldve been ideal to use). I'm using Maxell DVD-RW v1.1 discs. The laptop was very warm and running from the mains but I think that was due to the amount of time taken from start to finish(around 5 hrs). I'm still getting this DMA error message problem but can't get the secondary ide channel (device manager -->ide ata/atapi controllers --> secondary ide channel --> properties --> advanced settings --> current transfer settings) to change from PIO mode to DMA transfer. I think this is the issue. "ndsteve24" wrote: > Jim, > > I saw your other post and had a few questions. What version of MyDVD are you > using? I looked through your previous posts and you said it was all set to DMA, now
you are saying its at PIO mode. You only have the one drive on the laptop correct? You might want to get on the horn with DELL to figure out why its dropping from DMA 2 to PIO. At least the drives on my desktop are DMA 2. It might be a BIOS setting that is not set correctly. I know with my DELL desktop, when I installed a second hard drive, there is a setting in the BIOS that needed to be changed. Otherwise the second drive got set at PIO and the original drive dropped from DMA 5 to DMA 2. When I made the BIOS change, they both went to DMA 5. The thing I hated was that DELL gave explicit instructions in the manual how to put in a second drive (what master/slave/cable select settings to use, how to move the original drive, etc) but never mentioned going into the BIOS. Yeah I was trying to avoid the "Dell Hell" experience but looks like that's
my only option. Cheers for your help m8. Jim "ndsteve24" wrote: > I looked through your previous posts and you said it was all set to DMA, now > you are saying its at PIO mode.
