Default Burning a DVD

Windows Movie Maker does not recognize my DVD Burner - it is a Sony DRU 720A
DVD/CD Double Layer burner. It works with other programs I have. The
burner had the windows logo stating that it was compatible with Windows XP.
I can't find a compatibility list for Windows Movie Maker to see if it works
with this burner. (Another older program I had wouldn't work with it either
but I managed to find out it wasn't supported) Nero came with the burner but
I have saved the movie in the format for Windows Movie Maker and would like
to burn the DVD from that program. Thanks for any and all
suggestions.............

It sounds like you purchased the burner separately which means you don't
have a MCE machine so, as John said, WMM will not make a DVD. If you are
clicking on "Save to CD" and have a blank DVD in the drive WMM will NOT
recognize the drive as a burner but if you have a blank CDR-R/W in the drive
when you click "Save to CD" it will recognize the drive.

Also if Nero came bundled with the burner make sure it is not the crippled
or trial version that is normally bundled with DVD writers. If it is then it
likely does not include Nero Vision Express which you need to author a DVD
with Nero.

Thanks John, you are correct - guess I used the wrong terminology.

Thanks Wojo... The program still doesn't recognize the drive whether it is
a CD-R or CD-RW. Maybe it is just one of those older programs that don't
recognize newer drives.

It definitely isn't an older program and it definitely recognizes newer
drives since it works through Windows XP which will certainly recognize
newer drives. There has to be another issue here I just am not sure of what
it is unless you need an updated driver. Even if the drive is new that
doesn't mean there isn't a newer driver available so check the manufacturers
website for that or maybe a firmware upgrade. But regardless you are much
better off saving the movie to your hard drive and then using the DVD
Authoring program to create the DVD or even VCD for you.
