First I take video with my samsung mini dv camcorder. Then I capture video
into collections in windows movie maker. It is set to create clips. I then have have thumbnails of the clips in the collection window. After that, I drag a clip and drop it on the timeline for editiing. Once the clip is edited, I click FILE<SAVE PROJECT AS. Then I name it and save it to a "My videos" subdir I have named "clips". It gets automatically saved as a mswmm file. I then have all the clips of the tape edited and saved in this manner. It is at this point I am having problems. I don't know how to get them onto the timeline for combining and inserting transitions. If I try to drag them from "clips" onto the timeline or storyboard I can only do one at a time, meaning, if I try to drag a second one, the first one disapears and only the second one is shown starting at zero seconds. How do I get more than one clip onto the timeline so I can combine them, insert transitions and make a movie from all my clips? I MUST be doing something wrong somewhere. Please help. Mahalo. |

Well I am not sure why you took all those steps. You didn't need to drag
each clip to the timeline and save the projects and all that jazz. After importing the video into a collection (and the automatic clips are created if you wish) then you should be able to drag all the clips one at a time right then and there from the collection to the timeline. If that isn't working just like that then there is something else wrong and that is possible since you would be the 2nd person this week that has reported the same problem with one clip "replacing" another. Unfortunately I don't think we actually solved that particular problem since it seems to be a new one. In rereading your post though are you, through Windows Explorer, trying to drag the actual MSWMM file from the "clips" directory and then into WMM to the timeline? If so then that explains the issue since what you are essentially doing is closing one project and opening another. Instead open the "Collection" that all the separate clips were created in when you imported the video to begin with and drag them from THERE to the timeline. -Wojo -- Wojo's Web: http://www.remember-christopher.dostweb.com/Wojos_web/ Also Please visit..... http://www.remember-christopher.dost...m/christopher/ "Billion" <Billion@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:4A414112-2475-49FF-A2DC-7AD929772F2F@microsoft.com... > First I take video with my samsung mini dv camcorder. Wojos, thanks for the help.
In response to your suggestions, I CAN drag all the clips one at a time from the collection to the timeline. But what if I want to combine two clips from different collections that were saved to my "clips" directory? When I open any "collections" I only have unedited clips which were captured from my tape initially. After I edit the clips I save them to my "clips" directory. I subsequently don't have any edited clips in my "collections". The problem seems to be combining 2 or more clips from my "clips" directory. Is there a better way to organize edited clips so the can be stored in a collection rather than a windows directory? Then I could combine them with other edited clips that are stored in another collection. Could you please tell me what I SHOULD be doing with my clips after I edit them if I'm not doing it correctly? I am assuming now that you edit them and save them as either DV-AVI or WMV
files using the "Save to my computer" option? After that you need to "import" the new clips into a collection before you can combine them in a different project. Another thing worth noting is that you can capture video without having it make automatic clips and then clip them manually at points of your own choosing then just leave them in a collection until you are ready to use them at a later point. As far as organization I do both. I have a separate partition on my hard drive just for video clips, audio clips, and still images and each is type is in it's own directory and from there I have subdirectories to keep my clips organized the way I like. All these clips can be imported into WMM and you can organize them in the same way in our collections. If you click the [Collections] button at the top of the screen it will show all your collections in a tree structure in the left pane. There you can create new collections and collections within collections just like the Windows file structure. After that you simply drag the clips around into whichever categories you want. Hope that helps you. -Wojo "Billion" <Billion@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1446EB04-5DAF-4CC3-BD33-EC6E9D7512CD@microsoft.com... > Wojos, thanks for the help. > In response to your suggestions, I CAN drag all the clips one at a time > from > the collection to the timeline. I have been saving as "project" which automatically saves it as a MSWMM. Is
that wrong? Could that be the cause of my problem? Also my saved clips are not on the collections tree they are in a subdir of Window's "my videos". How do I get my saved clips in the collections tree as a DV-AVI or WMV? What's the difference and which is better? Mahalo. Yes that is the problem. When you are dragging the project file to the
timeline you are simply opening a project so when you drag the next one to the timeline you are closing the first project and then opening the new one. If you want to edit clips separately and then save them like this you need to use the "Save to my computer" option or simply press CTRL+P. This will save a WMV or AVI, depending on what you choose during the save movie wizard, to your hard drive and those can be imported and then combined in any way you see fit on the timeline. -Wojo "Billion" <Billion@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E70D07C0-950D-4425-9574-FCF2C675D705@microsoft.com... >I have been saving as "project" which automatically saves it as a MSWMM. >Is > that wrong?
