It definitely sounds like an installation problem then and uninstalling /
reinstalling SP2 is the only way to reinstall WMM.
It could be a problem with an unregistered DLL file or something of that
nature but Papajohn or Rehan would have to guide you further if that is the
case as they seem to know a lot more on that particular subject than I do.

Have you got windows media encoder installed? If not install that first, it
may well add the required codec. If it doesn't, you can always import the
avi to WME and use that to convert to WMV, long winded, but may get your
movie finished while we try to solve the problem.
