Cannot get sounds from Player

Thanks for the reply to my Media Player problem. Unfortunately this was not the solution. I can remember being asked to hide all microsoft applications,but I cannot remember whereabouts I ticked this box and I am wondering if this could be the problem. Thank you again for your help.
