Could someone please help me configure sound in XP. i am not able to play
any music. I get the following message, "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." |

Hi,
Click start, select run and type "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and click Ok. The device manager should open. This will have a list of devices installed in your computer. Check if you have anything like "Multimedia audio controller" is listed with a (!) mark. See if you have any devices listed as unknown or with a (!) mark. Contact your PC manufacturer and get the latest audio drivers for XP and install them. This should fix the problem.
