I've had this problem for three months and no one has been able to suggest a
solution. I'm going to have a nervous breakdown if I can't get it solved. Whenever I use any music filesharing program, e.g. Limewire, BearShare, KCEasy, I get disconnected from the Internet a couple of minutes after I open the program. The songs just start to download and I'm booted off. I have to shut down and wait about 10 minutes before turning on my computer again. I'd had no problems for a whole year and then overnight this started happening. I didn't add anything to my computer. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all of these programs; I've gone to their help sites which have not provided any help except to advise that Gnutella should be added to my internet connections, which was done. My Internet provider refuses to even talk to me, saying it isn't their problem. I keep my system clean; I have up to date security and virus protection, I keep my cache clear and am very careful about what I download. I'm so frustrated. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks a lot. |

I take it you are using some kind of dial up connection? You do realize
that AOL will kick you off and free up your connection if it believes you are not using their software all the time? If this is the case, only they can help you. -- Cari (MS-MVP) Printing & Imaging "Winnipegger" <Winnipegger@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A614D756-ACB5-4988-BCF3-668F9203B580@microsoft.com... > I've had this problem for three months and no one has been able to suggest > a > solution. Thank you for your reply. In Winnipeg, we have only two Internet providers
-- Shaw Cable and MTS Highspeed. No one I know has experienced this problem. In fact, the children of my friends tell me that they download music for hours at a time with no problem, with either of these providers. I understand what you're saying but I don't think it applies in my case. "Cari (MS-MVP)" wrote: > I take it you are using some kind of dial up connection? Do you mean the whole internet connection stops or just the file sharing
program disconnects? How do you get it back... restart the application or reboot the modem? -- Cari (MS-MVP) Printing & Imaging "Winnipegger" <Winnipegger@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:BCC84DD0-A51D-4F49-8EEA-490B0945B321@microsoft.com... > Thank you for your reply. The whole internet connection stops. I have to shut down and wait for about ten minutes before rebooting. Thanks for the article. I'm sure this will affect Canadians as well. I
don't mind paying for my downloads but, to be honest with you, I'm not sure what site to use. I've read several articles on the Internet that say a lot of sites that charge consumers are simply offering programs that are available for free. For instance, is downloading from RealPlayer or MSN Music for 99 cents each a safe bet? They still have *free* players, to download their music, and it's just a personal choice which you would like better. I'm sure either would satisfy most of your wants, and are "a safe bet". I personally use MusicMatch, but it's the same as the others basically. You should check their artists/playlists and see which one suits you best. ![]() bj ----- Byte" wrote: >> I don't know if this affects you in Canada, but read below article. >> It could be why you are getting disconnected. >> Industries digest Grokster ruling | Tech News on ZDNet >> http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588_22-5...tag=zdnn.alert |
