Default Re: Music playback is jumpy when opening applications!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was wondering if this issue was ever resolved. I’m still trying to fix the
same audio problem with my Dell pc.
Since July or for the past three months all types of audio and video files
(including internet streaming audio/video) skips like crazy when I try to
multitask on my PC. It doesn’t matter if it’s an .mp3 or .wav file played
with Winamp or a .wmv or .mpg file played with Real Player. I’ve tried every
combination possible with the same frustrating end result.

Here are the specs on my machine:
Dell Optiplex GX270
Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.20GHz
2046MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 128 MB
Creative SB Live! Series
SoundMAX Digital Audio (onboard sound)
Original Hard Drive 111 GB (83 GB available)
Second Hard Drive 186 GB (118 GB available)
16X DVD Drive
DVD/CD-RW Drive

This is a list of maintenance I have done to fix the problem.
*Downloaded and installed the latest drivers for video card & audio cards.
*Updated Norton Internet Security and run complete system virus scans every
other day.
*Defragged both hard drives.
*Ran a Check Disk on both hard drives.
*Updated all media players with their latest versions.
*Unsuccessfully tried to run a Windows System Restore back to a date before
the issue began.
*Replaced the motherboard and heatsink fan.

I’ve had my PC for over two years now and until July, always had great sound
and video no matter how many applications were running at once. I’d
appreciate any advice in trying to get this problem under control.

Thanks,
Frank-John
