Default Audacity won't record cassettes

I am trying to record home made cassettes onto my computer using Audacity. I
have set the connections to Line in, but Audacity records nothing as the tape
plays. I have one end in the headphone jack of the tape player and the other
two in the Line In jacks for my computer.

When I use the same plugs with my camcorder, it records both audio and video
(not using Audacity for this). And when I record with a microphone, that
records also. So it seems my problem is not with my computer.

What do I need to do to get Audacity to record my cassettes?

Thanks

Line-in jacks ?????

Should only be one, a small stereo jack which goes into the soundcard. Does
you tape machine not have a line out socket ? If so use that.

Is the line you're using jack to 2 x RCA's ? If so dump it and get a jack to
jack (male/male) line.

Cheers,
jerry

.... and check that this Line In is checked "active" and slided up in the
Recording properties of Volume Control (opposite of the Playback
properties).

Default RE: Audacity won't record cassettes

Your sound card has a Stereo 1/8" mini input and it is a LINE LEVEL INPUT,
You Headphone jack on the cassette is an AMplified OUTPUT that changes with
the volumn control and can easily OVERLOAD the LINE LEVEL INput of the sound
card.
-- If you mean you plug your Earphone output from your camcorder to your
Sound card and get both Audio and Video, well I will ay IMPOSSIBLE. Your
Sound Card does exactly that, handles sound and processes Input and output of
Sound, Your GRAPHICs CARD handles Video and requires totally seperate Video
Input from your Camcorder. usually an RCA.
If you insist on using a Headphone output of your Portable Cassette Player
to your Sound Card, go to Radio Shack and purchase a Stereo Male 1/8"
Attenuatening Cable to a Stereo Male 1/8" to go into the Sound Card Line IN,
turn the volumn level on the Portable Casstte down to about 1/4 volumn and
then OPEN the Volumn control on your computer and be sure that WAVE and LINE
IN sliders are up tp about 90%. Good Luck
