I think there has been an issue with either my Easy CD 5 or with Puretracks
Music Download manager or Kazaa with my WMP. While having all three programs open and downloading music, the download manager for Puretracks suddenly froze and I had to reboot. After reboot, the audio on WMP no longer works. WMP appears to be playing, there is just no sound. Speakers are all properly connected and I can listen to music from within Kazaa and within the Easy CD program, just not through WMP10. I have tried uninstalling Easy CD several times. I have removed the WMP10 upgrade back to 9. Nothing seems to work to get the audio back. Any suggestions? Can I totally remove WMP10 to try reinstalling it. Is anyone aware of any software conflicts between these programs? Thanks so much. |

Added info - I was just able to get a CD to play in WMP by switching from
digital to analog in the properties for the CDR. However, there is no option to switch to analog for my music files in my computer, so I still can't play them. Hope this helps to zero in on what the problem might be. Thanks again. Also added note - this whole problem started shortly after downloading the latest windows update. May have nothing to do with it, but thought I'd mention. Hi Galen,
Thanks so much for your response. I don't think it's Kazaa which caused the problem. I run Kazaa lite to avoid all the spyware. I have had no such problems on any of my other computers which also run Kazaa. I think it has to do with the reboot and the computer settings or drivers becoming "misdirected". Since I know the speakers and sound driver are working properly (computer sounds, CD - analog only, etc.) I think it has to do with the settings for digital. Everything "looks" ok with everything I check, settings-wise. So I just don't know what else to do. Any suggestions? My first suggestion would be to check WMP's Tools:Options evices:Speakersand make sure the right output is selected. Second, http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#dsound may help further... -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Thanks for your suggestion, but the speakers are in fact properly configured,
and I have sound on all my other applications, so there's no problem with the speakers themselves. I also created a new user account on the computer and WMP works perfectly on it - all connected exactly the same on the main. I'm getting quite frustrated as I have tried everything, including restoring to an earlier date, removing various programs and reinstalling, removing WMP 10 and reinstalling 9, then back again. As I look through the site, I see that many others have had similar problems, but I haven't been able to find any solutions yet. Any help would be immensely appreciated. This did happen shortly after a Windows Update, so I am wondering if there is something with that update. Thanks. Actually, WMP uses a 'newer' output for your sound card, so my suggestions really do have merit. Other apps don't use the sound card the same way, as you've noticed. =) -Zach -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free time) See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. Have you verified the mute switch on the WMP console is off?
