What Files are assigned to be played with Media Player? Make sure the
files you want to hear are assigned to be played using Media Player 10 and NOT Real Player or Quick time or whatever. -- I Have forgotten so much of what I once knew. Bill,
i have read your post and the reposes but i found the responses not useful at all cause i have experienced the same problem and i have solved it easily in a few steps, so if you are interested in knowing how, send me an email to (ahmad_aiy@hotmail.com), if you dont want to send an email, you can check if anything you wanna play with windows media player is associated to it, e.g.: if you want to play a .mp3 file, may be you have downloaded an update which is located on Windows Update as a custom update and its not a high priority one, so go to Add/Remove from the control panel and put a tick on Show Updates, if you find an update for windows media player which was added in the last week, be sure that your problem is caused by this update, so open your Windows Media Player and go to tools then options and from there choose Plug-ins then choose Background and remove the tick beside everything that you dont usually use in this player, then in the same window click on file types and make sure that the files you are trying to play are associated with the media player.. By the way, Do you have more than on Sound Card??? if so the problem will be different. if nothing from the above solves the problem, there is another solution, try to create another account , make it adminisrater and dont make its files private, open the new account and see, if there is sound well done, if there isnt just dont hesitate to send me an email. cause i have the answer for sure Good Luck -- Aiys "bill" wrote: > I use Media Player 10, worked fine till this week. XtremeAiy - thank you. I am having the same problem (My post is below).
Your suggestion has helped to zero in on a couple of answers, but I'm not sure what to do now. I have emailed you directly, but wanted to post as well in case this might help others. As you suggested, I checked all my settings, which appear to be fine. I don't have any plug-ins. I have managed to play a CD in WMP10 by switching to analog, but it still won't play any of my digital files. So I tried your suggestion of creating a new admin account, and voila, the new media player in the new account works fine. So I know for sure that all my connections and everything else is working fine. So - now what???? How do I get the WMP in my main account to work again? Do you know what caused the sound to stop in the first place? Does it have anything to do with the latest Windows update, which I downloaded shortly before the problems started. Thanks so much, Bongogirl "XtremeAiy" wrote: > Bill, > > i have read your post and the reposes but i found the responses not useful > at all > cause i have experienced the same problem and i have solved it easily in a few > steps, so if you are interested in knowing how, send me an email to > (ahmad_aiy@hotmail.com), if you dont want to send an email, you can check if > anything you wanna play with windows media player is associated to it, e.g.: > if > you want to play a .mp3 file, may be you have downloaded an update which is > located on Windows Update as a custom update and its not a high priority > one, so > go to Add/Remove from the control panel and put a tick on Show Updates, if > you find an update for windows media player which was added in the last week, > be sure that your problem is caused by this update, so open your Windows > Media Player and go to tools then options and from there choose Plug-ins then > choose Background and remove the tick beside everything that you dont usually > use in this player, then in the same window click on file types and make sure > that the files you are trying to play are associated with the media player.. > > By the way, Do you have more than on Sound Card??? > if so the problem will be different. > > if nothing from the above solves the problem, there is another solution, try > to create another account , make it adminisrater and dont make its files > private, open the new account and see, if there is sound well done, if there > isnt just dont hesitate to send me an email. cause i have the answer for sure > Good Luck > -- > Aiys > > > "bill" wrote: > > > I use Media Player 10, worked fine till this week. your problem is solved by creating new account, that shows that your problem is located in this directory "C:\Documents and Settings\<userame>" because when you create a new account nothing changes in your windows settings and system files except a new folder with new system files and related application data are created in this directory with your new username, so your problem will be in the Media Player folder in this directory, and i prefer you delete the old account using the new account and choosing not to delete the user files, so you will have a new account with brand new system files, that will the chance for having the same problem again, if you dont want to delete the account, or that the account has some settings that you prefer not to redo, you can find the problem by showing your system hidden files and folders and head to "C:\documents and settings\<username>\application data\media player" from their you must find a playlist, if so your first heading is alright, so head now to "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\WMTools Downloaded Files" and see if their is any downloaded tools, if their is nothing, then please delete the account from the new account and then do not delete the user files, and thats for sure will save you from getting the same problem again. -- Aiys "bongogirl" wrote: > XtremeAiy - thank you. i would like you to notice that in the previous post i have said that your first heading is to "C:\Documents and Settings\<usrname>\Application Data\media player" please correct that to "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player" -- Aiys "bongogirl" wrote: > XtremeAiy - thank you.
