I apologize for starting a new thread, but I was in the process of getting
help and the replies stopped coming. I have Crescendo Player downloaded and installed and I want it to play in Netscape, but it won't. I know it works because I have tested it and I know it is installed to the right file path or directory or whatever you call it. In any case it is listed as a Netscape Plug-in. I have Windows Media Player embedded in IE and it will play the midi on my website. But when I go to Netscape the midi won't play even though I have Crescendo listed as a plug-in. I have a space on my website for the midi. When I click on that it tells me I need a plug-in to play the midi and suggests that I download Quicktime. Well, I already have Quicktime installed as a plug-in in IE. If I install Quicktime in Netscape will that conflict with the Quicktime in IE? Otherwise, why won't Crescendo play in Netscape even though it is listed as a plug-in? Can anyone help me resolve this? -- Message posted via http://www.windowskb.com |

This is the best advice you are going to get [quoted below from Jay's site]. Those people have been using NS and Crescendo for years. People that visit this MS group primarily use IE and WMP... and since Crescendo is no longer supported, the newsgroup below remains your best bet. bj ----- > Posted: Sun Dec 11, 2005 8:13 am > Your best bet is to consult some Crescendo experts. > > Visit snews://secnews.netscape.com:563/netscape.test.multimedia > > They will be glad to help... |

Perhaps you have a more helpful source, like a URL? I ask this because I put the above link into my Netscape Browser serach box and first I got an account wizard that signed me up to become a mebner of this newsgroup. Then, not knowing what to expect, but thinking it might be OK, I signed up. I then got a message telling me that there was over six thousand messages waiting to download. I think you'll agree that this is hardly a way to contact these experts when I would have to wade through no telling how many messages to find one pertinent to what I am looking for help for. I assumed that maybe the link above would lead to some kind of forum where I could post a question and contact some one directly, not have to wade through who knows how many messages. I have been trying to resolve this issue for nearly two months. I don't think I want it to just get more complicated. Why couldn't there just be a way to get to this site and take a look around? Why is it wanting to download so many messages Especially when whoever is on the other end doesn't know what I want. That seems like shooting a mosquito with a machine gun. -- Message posted via WindowsKB.com http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forums....music/200512/1 |

That is what will happen if you sign up for ANY newsgroup on UseNet. All you have to do, is LIMIT the number of messages you WANT to download first, say 100 or 300; after downloading them, put "Crescendo" in your NS search box, and it will select the messages that may be useful. If you don't want to search, then just originate your own message [as you did here] and they will answer, or direct you to previous messages that do. However, you still have to subscribe to the newsgroup AND set up your browser to *limit* the messages before you download and post. > I assumed that maybe the link above would lead to some kind of forum where I > could post a question and contact some one directly, not have to wade through > who knows how many messages. I'm beginning to see why you haven't been making any progress. Maybe you should use a *supported* media player like Quicktime, and forget about Crescendo. ![]() > I have been trying to resolve this issue for nearly two months. If you consider *learning* about the software you are using too complicated, then I don't know how anyone can help you. > Why couldn't there just be a way to get to this site and take a look around? It's NOT a web site. It's millions of messages on UseNet, held on servers around the world. If you google "USENET" maybe you will get an explanation that makes better sense than mine. ![]() > Why is it wanting to download so many messages Especially when whoever is on > the other end doesn't know what I want. You are not expected to download ALL the messages *available* in ANY newsgroup. Set YOUR NS mail reader to LIMIT the number of messages to HOWEVER many YOU want... it's very simple. Do you know how to do this? There's a box to fill in under Server Settings for your ISP's newsgroups. > That seems like shooting a mosquito with a machine gun. True... but that's not necessary. You're missing the *fundamentals* of searching in newsgroups... it's not like a web forum. If you download only what you need from a newsgroup, you can easily cancel the subscription after you've found your answers. Hope this helps you understand the "whys". bj |
