I've followed this procedure to setup a dial up ics at home between my xp pro
machine and xp home machine. 1. I setup the net work by enabling the guest account on both computers and sharing a few folders on each computer, did a reboot and the network was working fine. 2. I assigned an ip address off 192.168.0.1 to my xp pro machine which has the dial up modem and internet connection. 3. I set my xp home machine "to obtain an ip address automatically" 4. Open the Network and Dial-up Connections folder. Then right click the Dial- up connection that you want to share and select Properties 5. Click the Advanced tab, then check Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection. Heres the twist, the ICS options are not available, All I see is a settings button for Windows Firewall Does anybody have any ideas ? -- Message posted via WindowsKB.com http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forums....twork/200511/1 |

Remush, Don't change anything on the XP Pro computer, except using the Network Setup Wizard. Run the NSW, and select "This computer connects directly to the Internet. The other computers on my network connect to the Internet through this computer.". That should do every thing properly. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/using-network-setup-wizard-in-windows.html#ICSHost> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...s.html#ICSHost # Set the computer name, computer description, and workgroup name that you specify. # Install these network components if they're not already present: * TCP/IP. * Client for Microsoft Networks. * File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. # Share any printers connected to the computer. # Create the "Shared Documents" folder if it doesn't exist. # Share the "Shared Documents" folder. # Enable Internet Connection Sharing on the network connection that you specify. # Enable the Internet Connection Firewall on the shared network connection. # Create a Network Bridge if more than one local area network connection exists. # Configure the local area network connection (or Network Bridge) with IP address 192.168.0.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0. # Configure the local area network connection to obtain an IP address automatically. # Install software to allow the client to control the host's Internet connection. -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
