Default Can't access shared folders

I have 1 windows xp PC connected to a Windows xp Laptop via a netgear adsl
router with dhcp. both systems can ping the router and the laptop can ping
the pc but the pc cannot ping the laptop. Neither can see each other in my
network places. anyone got any ideas?

If both computers can ping the router, it makes a physical connectivity issue
kind of unlikely. Start with looking for a firewall problem - be imaginative
and read the whole article.

Next check for an LSP / Winsock problem.

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.

The router shows the laptop as connected but shows the ip address and
'unknown' for device name

Desktop computer can't ping laptop computer, and router can issue DHCP to
laptop, but can't get its name. Could be a name resolution or protocol issue.
Make sure that all required protocols and services are running on both
computers.

If that doesn't help, go thru my troubleshooting guides.
