Failed IP Address

My LAN commection is fine and I am able to connect to internet and send
emails. The problem that I am having is the computer IP address returns as
failed after network diagnosis. I recently upgraded my DSL service with the
same ISP and have a different IP address associated with them. The problem I
have is I am unable to make connection with other users on the internet and
transfer information back and forth used for online gaming. I have tried the
repair optin in Windows XP Network Options. Any ideas on how to repair this
IP address?
