Default Losing Wan miniport continuously

I have windows xp professional and I keep losing my bridge (wan miniport or
PPPoE) connection out of network connections. Microsoft's only response is to
reinstall xp. I can't keep doing this every couple of days, and placing my
system in jeopardy. I recently lost the ability to see a large storage drive
in my computer after reinstalling.
I have service pack 1 installed and am about to move over to linux or
anything as an alternative because this is driving me nuts. Please help.

Check the Event Viewer for any errors logged in there and post them here for
us to view. Also you can try upgrading to SP2
