hi
My network was working OK but now there are some problems... I have 2 PCs - "Music" is my main PC out in my studio and connected to internet via cable modem (which is also routed through a Wireless router). "House" is, er, in my house and connects to the internet via a wireless pci card and the wireless router in the studio (the Music pc doesn't have to be switched on for this). Now everytime I bootup House, the wireless network connection appears to fire up OK but then a bubble comes up saying there is a problem. So I repair the connection and everything is fine e.g. renews IP address etc. This is not a major problem but just a bit of pain (very occasionally it will connect first time after booting up). More seriously I can no longer use the SharedDocs folder on the House pc to download stuff I've got from the internet onto the Music pc. I've tried everything e.g. adding network place and selecting "\\House\SharedDocs" as folder but, after a long pause, the box comes up saying "The folder you entered does appear to be valid unavailable. Please choose another". Obviously I can setup each PCs respective SharedDocs folder as a shared folder on the respective PC but can't get them shared over the wireless network with the other. I have XP SP2 with TrendMicro Internet Security & ZoneAlarm Pro. Any suggestions appreciated cheers dave p |

I was having network problems with my two systems here at home and after
much gnashing of teeth and reading of manuals I decided to install NetBeui (even though many publications said it was obsolete) on both systems. Problems solved. It is easily removed if the problems continue. It is on the XP CD - look under \valueadd\msft\net. The readme will give instructions.
