We then closed IE and reopened it gave us the "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message. We cloed it went in again re-enabled Java, closed IE, restarted it again and it actually loaded a webpage... but then it gave us the IE has encountered a problem error again. We tried rebooting, disabling and re-enabling Java, etc., but could not get IE to load a page again. Every time IE starts it give us the "encountered a problem" message with our only option being to close IE. I had the customer go to a command prompt and ping Yahoo.com and she got 4 replies so I'm fairly sure TCP/IP and all is OK and that the problem is with IE. Do you agree? Thank you for your continued great help. Tim Anderson |

IE6 and Firefox opened and then shutdown.....IE6 with the same error message as stated above. My solution = Running in Safe Mode 1. Adaware numerous times 2. Spybot search and destroy numerous times 3. CWS Shredder a few times 4. HiJack This..........numerous times W/cleanup......This program was critical in helping me clean the machine. And finally when this didn't completly solve the problem, 5. Pulling the hard drive and slaving it on another system and running an updated version of Mcaffee and Adaware to scan the drive. All worked well after putting the HD back in. All this said, Follow the excellant cleanup advice given by the experts in this newsgroup.....and follow the advice to the letter. It works! The programs mentioned above, along with a firewall and an Anti virus program are very useful in keeping your computer clean and free of bugs. Your machine is seriously infested, but can be cured. Programs like Hijack this are not for novices....Make sure you know what you're doing! The machine I'm telling you about had 1200+ adaware items, 350+ spybot items, 75+ hijack this items, and 15+ CWS items.......I can't tell you which was the main culprit.
