I am trying to setup a Remote Desktop connection on a Windows XP Pro machine.
I have found, using netstat -a, that the port 3389 is not listed. How do I add this to the list. Can I simply update the services file as in the old days of Win 9X? |

"Opening" a port isn't possible - there must be a server installed and
listening to that port before it will show up in your port list. -- Richard G. Yes, it is enabled and yet the port is not open for "LISTENING". Which
services are involved? Maybe something is not running that is supposed to be runnning. If there is a problem with the service(s), how can I reinstall just that portion of Windows XP? The "Terminal Services" service should be running. That is noted on the page
I pointed you to in the troubleshooting section. Check the dependencies also. Beyond that any chance your running NAV 2005 worm protection on that PC or MS OneCare Live Beta? NAV 2005 worm protection kills RDP connections. I have also seen reports of OneCare Live Beta causing something similar... -- Al Jarvi (MS-MVP Windows Networking) Please post *ALL* questions and replies to the news group for the mutual benefit of all of us...
