I put a new computer on a network. It is running Windows XP Home. I need to
connect to another XP Home computer on the network to map a network drive. I can ping that computer from a command prompt, but cannot see it (or within Windows. The domain of the computer I want to connect to is MSHOME. Originally, the new PC's domain was WORKGROUP. I changed it to MSHOME, but still no connection. Thanks for any help. |

assuming that you have:
1) unique computer name and ip address 2) netbios over tcp/ip enable 3) computers are in the same domain or workgroup 4) proper firewall setting try to locate the other computer by using its IP address in the window explorer's address bar type \\192.168.1.1 ....for example tros2112 wrote: > I put a new computer on a network. Thanks for the help, guys, but I got it to work. I went back through
everything I had tried. This time, I typed in the network drive in instead of browsing for it. I tried that earlier with a network printer I was trying to install and it didn't work. But with the drive, my Norton Internet security popped up a note that my computer was trying to connect to the network and asking if it was OK. I said OK and it worked. It good to know there are good people wanting to help. THANKS!
