We have around 6 computers all connected on a network. Everyone has been
able to view each others computer through the network "workgroup". For the past couple days, no one (including myself) can view my computer when viewing the names of computers listed on the network "workgroup." However, everyone (including myself), can see everyone else's computer. I can access everyone's computer, and everyone can access the internet through the network. Also, I have Norton Internet Security. The 2005 version expired last week, and I thought that might have caused the problem. However, I just renewed and upgraded to the 2006 version, and the problem has not been fixed. HELP!!! |

Mace, Your problem is pretty well known, though it can have any of several causes. NIS, if not correctly installed, could very well be the cause. Read my troubleshooting guide to start: <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/1...isibility.html If no help there, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from your computer, and from 2 of the others. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely: <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...#AskingForHelp -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience. My email is AT DOT actual address pchuck mvps org. |

Hi mace!
Basic troubleshooting rule applies here. If you suspect that it is the Norton Firewall that is blocking you, have you disabled it and test again? Logically, that should tell you whether the Norton program is the culprit or not. If it does work, follow the link below to add you machine (or your networks' IP range) into your firewall 'trusted zone': http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...209135236?Open I hope this works! Please post your results!! "mace" wrote: > We have around 6 computers all connected on a network.
