Default Ex-domain PC now on orkgroup, wants log-on password; can't file sh

Win XP Pro PC taken off the head office domain and hooked it into a workgroup
in a branch office. Name was changed and settings changed (via System
Properties / Computer Name).

First, the PC still keeps asking for Ctrl-Alt-Del password when switched on.
I have checked in User Account but can see no way to disable this.

Secondly, the PC happily uses a printer on the network and accesses the
internet via the ADSL modem/router. However, there are shares on other PCs
in the workgroup and this PC cannot access them, even though the user has PC
admin rights. It will not even show the other PCs in the group, although
they can see it. I tried setting a share folder but the other PCs cannot
access it.

Any ideas, please? Thank you.

hey slammer,

to disable ctrl+alt+del, you have to edit your winlogon registry and
here is how:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Double click on DisableCAD
to disable Ctrl-Alt-Del, value =1
Click OK
Close the registry editor
Reboot the machine

for you to see other in the workgroup, here is simple checklist:

netbios over tcp/ip = enable
file and print sharing = enable
pc is a member of workgroup
instead of using broswer, type to locate the share by
\\workstation_name from address bar of window explorer

for accessign the share:

assign folder permission to everyone
create local user account for pc that wants to access the share

were you able to ping the other PC?
did you use net view to see your share folder?
