I am suffering from what appears to be a fairly common symptom. I have 2 XP
Home PCs connected back to back via crossover ethernet connection. One is sharing its cable internet connection and printer, both have file shares mapped. All this is working ok. My problem is that after a time (I havent measured exactly how long) the second computer disappears from the "view workgroup computers" list - without affecting internet/file/printer sharing adversely!! Reading other users posts I tried to download the browstat utility to aide diagnosis but cannot locate it on microsoft.com. The download I got was called - WindowsXP-KB838079-SupportTools-ENU.exe which said it would contain browstat.exe along with many others but it is not present after running the selfextracting cab. If it has been replaced or I am simply getting the wrong download please advise where to get browstat.exe. Thanks, Rod |

Rod, There are other websites, which will provide browstat by itself: <http://www.dynawell.com/reskit/microsoft/win2000/browstat.zip> <http://rescomp.stanford.edu/staff/manual/rcc/tools/browstat.zip> -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
