Hi
I'm not really sure what group to post this problem for.. but here goes and thanks in advance for any help... I have a small network which is connected as follow: cable modem --> Zyxel prestige router --> swicth The switch has a computer, a printerserver and a wireless accespoint connceted. Additionally the acces point has up to three notebooks connected. This setup has been working super fine for a long time (½-1 year) as long as it is only my own computers that are online, but sometimes when a new computer wanted to get online the internet connection went dead! A ping to the connection site/URL (log on site) timed out. This did not worry me that much. It was only some times this happend and they could simply not get access to my network and internet. But now the big problem is that the internet connection dies when more than one notebook is online. As soon as the second notebook gets online the intetnet connection dies (Again a ping to the logon site/URL times out). The connection is not established again before the notebook is turned off (or just deactivated the netcard) and the router has been restarted. What can be the problem??? The version of windows xp is not the same for all the notebooks! Can this perhaps be the problem? The PCMCIA card for both notebooks are the same model as the acces point (Level One 54Mbit). The router has a standard setup and provides internal IP adresse from 10.0.0.200 and up. Please prompt me for additional information if you need that to solve the problem. It think it is really strange. Best regards Flemming Gravesen |

It think it is really strange. > Why do you have a separate switch in the configuration when there are only 3 wired connections (Computer, printserver, & wireless access point)? The router itself should have 4 LAN ports which would handle these devices. Not saying this is the cause of the problem, but simpifying things always works best, in my view. What are the i.p. addresses assigned to the notebooks when more than one of them is online? Can the PC and one notebook both access the Internet at the same time? When two notebooks are online can you access the Router's configuration page (should be 10.0.0.1 from what you have given, but check the documentation for your actual router)? If so then what does it show for the i.p. address for the WAN (= Internet) side? Ron Martell Duncan B.C. Canada -- Microsoft MVP (1997 - 2006) On-Line Help Computer Service http://onlinehelp.bc.ca |

Thanks for the repley.
I have the the switch because the router does not have extra LAN ports. The printerserver has 10.0.0.200 while the additional computers (both PC and notebooks) will have 10.0.0.20x depending which of them who enter the network first. One notebook and the PC can acces the internet at the same time without problems. The router can sometimes be accessed. Some times is show some thing like (tranlated from danish): Host not accessible or Answer from 10.0.0.1: The host is no accessible Hope this help because I am lost. Spend way too many hours on this project. /Flemming Gravesen |
