Default Mapped drive gets redirected

I'm using XP Pro. I have two computers hooked to a Linksys network
controller going through a Ethernet router and a external hard drive.
This in a shop environment. They are hooked together as a peer to peer
network. It is used as a parts data base for a cad-cam program. I
mapped a drive letter to a folder on
the external hard drive. The cad-cam program uses this to access the
parts in the data base. The problem is some how the mapped drive get
redirected to another location on the external hard drive. I know it
does that because the cad-cam program has to create data base files and
a ini. file if its not there and it does so in the new location. HELP
!!!!!!

First thing I'd try is to remove the share and then create it
again.

If that doesn't help I would search the registry for the share
name and check whether there's any unwanted duplication or
anything else looking fishy.

What are the location folders' names? Anything conspicuous
there?

I already redid the sharing and no dups in registry. The folder is name
Qdrive. When the problem happens if you try to connect to the mapped
drive in My Computer it says mapped drive is disconnected but it says
next to the drive it is connected. If you go to tools and disconnect it
the computer locks up for a a little while then you can reconnect it and
thats when I can see the new files my cad-cam program created in the
wrong place. Basicly the path is workgroup/shopserver/Disk1/Qdrive. It
creates the files in Disk1.

At this point I would experiment a little to get a better
feeling for the defect. What happens if you create a different
share in a different folder and use that for a test? Do you get
similar symptoms or does that work perfectly?

What happens if you create a subfolder in the problem folder and
try to use that?

Perhaps such tests can reveal some system in the chaos.
