I had a network connection with broadband Speedtouch 330 Modem running (used
the XP network wizard) between my main computer with Win XP Pro with SP2 and my other smaller computer running Windows ME. I have Norton 2004 AV on the XP computer and Norton 2003 AV on the ME computer (I have since uninstalled Norton AV 2003 to try and fault find). Windows Firewall is disabled (as before) and everything runs through the Norton 2004 Firewall. This all worked perfectly until I had some strange problems on the Windows ME computer and decided to reinstall Windows ME over itself to stabilise it. I reconfigured the network connection using the XP wizard but it just wouldn't work. My mate (excellent with computers) emailed me to say that the XP wizard was basically rubbish and gave me instructions how to set up the network manually and run everything through the Norton 2004 Firewall. When I turn on my main computer and connect to the internet I can use the ME computer for a few minutes to access the internet but then it stops allowing me access as though the connection has timed out on the ME computer. The only way I can restore the connection on the ME computer is to restart the XP computer and connect to the internet again which is fine but again after a few minutes the connection on the ME computer collapses. The XP computer internet/mail facility runs fine. At the end of the day when the ME computer is shut down it puts a message on my XP computer screen that the network connection has now been disconnected?? so I assume that the network is basically intact but I don't know why it's timing out. Could anyone please suggest any possible solutions to this problem? Many Thanks aw56001 -- Message posted via WindowsKB.com http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forums....twork/200511/1 |
