I have beeen having a whole lot of problems in different areas.
A new one that develoed is if I hit a hyper-link (usually pdf), I get an
empty window with a small white square at the top left with a red star, and
a blue circle and a blue square. Hyper-links to other web-pages are OK; and i
can open pdf files stored on my hd.

any thoughts?

Had that one 3 weeks ago. I uninstalled Adobe PDF reader, rebooted, and
downloaded and reinstalled the PDF reader -- worked after that.
