In MSKB and web searches I can't find instructions on how to
to do the following. Both computers use XP SP2 with account names and passwords. One computer is connected to an unsecured wireless network. Another computer is networked to the first via crossover cable Ethernet. The first computer accesses the wireless network by logging into it. A user name and password are entered in a browser page that appears with any attempt to resolve a URL while not logged in. I'd like to have the second computer access the internet through the first. I've read the Internet Connection Sharing service will require a static IP address for the wireless computer. If so, that will negate the wireless connection because the wireless network uses DHCP to assign the IP address. Is there a way to do internet connection sharing in this environment? --David |

Can't he just bridge the wired and wireless connections, and let DHCP requests flow freely across that bridge for TCP/IP configuration? (I'm assuming the wireless side is using DHCP elsewhere on that wireless side of course, the OP didn't mention specifically how he's getting configured). That's what I would do. Pretty simple. I do not know what the unsecured WiFi network is, but I'll bet that however it works, you will have to address the connection, sharing of the connection, and Windows Networking setup, as one integrated topic. May I suggest that you post your query in one thread only, and explicitly close the other thread. Post a third time, replying to ONE of your 2 posts, saying "This thread is now closed". You may otherwise get conflicting advice, that will cause both threads to continue, fruitlessly. -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
