Ineternet Gateway and Wireless router installation

Hi All:

I just finished setting up my new Linksys wireless router and noticed I now
have a Internet gateway setup under my network connections. I have 4
computers running off the router(2 wireless and 2 wired). Why is this gateway
there? I'm not sharing an interent connection with the other computers
through the main desktop. Should not the router take care of this w/o using
an interent gateway? If correct How do I disable or re-configure the network.
I did disable the gateway but it keeps asking me for modem #? All computers
work with the router but....Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can't confirm this because I have uPnP disabled, but I understand that this is
what happens when you install a "Universal Plug-n-Play" (uPnP) compatible router
in WinXP and you have the XP uPnP service enabled (which it is by default).
Apparently, you can configure your router via the Properties tab of the
"Internet Gateway" icon in Network Connections instead of using the router's web
interface.

I imagine that when you "disable" the Internet Gateway from Network Connections,
the system asks for the dialup number because it thinks you have (and maybe you
really have) disabled the broadband connection.

Google for --XP "internet gateway" upnp-- and do a little reading

Thanks for the info. UPnP is enabled within router software.
