I am trying to network 2 computers together. I have done it before, but
recently I had to reinstall wiindows xp home edition on one of my computers. Now the network wont work. When I right click on Local Area Connection in click properties, and click on the support tab it says: IP Address <UNAVAILABLE> Subnet MAsk <UNAVAILABLE And everything else is unavailable also. I have it set up to obtain IP Address automatically, but it doesn't work when I do It manually either. If I right click on Local area connection and click repair, it says: Failed to query TCP/IP settings. Cannot proceed. My little brother once tried to open a game and he cilck on multiplayer and it said my IP Address was 127.0.0.1 But it only says it in games. Any help would be appreicated. My email is rian222@gmail.com or you can just reply to this message, but email is preferred. Thanks. |

Well, at least the hosts file is OK. 127.0.0.1 is the IP address of the local host computer. In fact, it is the IP address for every computer which is connected to the internet. If the other computer is working correctly, then execute the Network Setup Wizard on it; don't change anything. Eventually, you will get the opportunity to create a disk which has the settings on it. Take this disk over to the miscreant computer, and execute the file which the disk has (Network Setup Wizard gives instructions). This process insures that the two computers have a consistent setup; otherwise, networking is sure to fail. Jim |

Yes I ran setwork setup several times after reinstalling xp. The computer
that has the ip 127.0.0.1 that only shows in games isn't even connected to the internet. Neither computer that I am networking has a floppy drive, but will a flashdrive work? |

I ran the network setup on the computer that works and used a flashdrive to
save the network info on. I ran it on the other computer and rebooted both. I can't even tell a difference. Everythings seems the same as before. The problem stil exists. Averatec Laptop Windows XP Tablet PC Edition Amd Athlon Processor 512 Mb of RAM That is the computer that seems to be working correctly. This is the one that doesn't seem to work: Custom-made Shuttle XPC Windows XP OEM Home Edition Amd Athlon Processot 512 Mb of RAM The weird thing is. One the good computer it has an icon in the corner that says it is connected at 100 somethings per second. And the BAd one says 400 somethings per second. Apparently they are both connected to the network, but neither computer but you cant do anything. There is no other computer that shows up in My Network Places, and I tried running a game and had tried hosting with both computers. It just syas 'finding sessions' and it never shows the session, but it is clearly opened on the other computer. |

Did you execute the program that is on the flashdrive? Just rebooting will not do that. Jim |
